Why Seafood Boils Are a Crowd Favourite

Seafood boils are a popular way to enjoy fresh prawns, crabs, mussels, and octopus all in one pot. With bold Cajun flavours and simple vegetables like corn and potatoes, this dish is both hearty and indulgent. Plus, it’s versatile—you can adjust the spice, swap in your favourite seafood, or add extra ingredients to make it your own.

Step-by-Step Seafood Boil Recipe

1. Build the Flavour Base

Fill a large pot with 4–5 litres of water. Add the onion, salt, lemon half and 15–20g Cajun spice, and salt. Bring to a boil.

2. Cook the Vegetables

Add potatoes first and boil for 10 minutes. Add corn and any other extras, cooking another 5–7 minutes until the potatoes are almost tender.

3. Add the Seafood in Stages

Seafood cooks quickly, so timing is key:

  • Crabs – 5–6 minutes

  • Baby octopus – 3–4 minutes

  • Prawn cutlets & tiger prawns – 2–3 minutes

  • Mussels – 2–3 minutes until they open

Drain immediately to avoid overcooking.

4. Make the Cajun Garlic Butter Sauce

In a separate pan, melt the butter. Add minced garlic, onion and cook gently for 1 minute. Stir in the remaining Cajun spice, squeeze in the remaining lemon, and add 2–3 tablespoons of the seafood cooking liquid. Simmer 1–2 minutes until fragrant.

5. Serve and Enjoy

Spread the seafood and vegetables onto a large platter or into provided bags. Pour the hot Cajun butter over the top. Sprinkle with parsley and serve with lemon wedges and crusty bread.

Pro Tip: Your kit includes two plastic bags for holding the seafood and pouring the cajun butter to mix, for presentation purposes — do not use them for cooking.

Tips for the Best Seafood Boil

  • Adjust the Cajun spice to taste. Start at 25g and add more for extra heat.

  • Don’t overcrowd the pot; cook in batches if needed.

  • Add extra veggies, sausage, or cherry tomatoes to make it your own.

  • Serve immediately for the best taste and texture.
